Irrigation Foreman
About the Employer
Our client is a premier landscape management company based in Lynn, Massachusetts, that has served the North Shore, Boston and Southern New Hampshire for over 40 years. With a team of 100 professionals, they specialize in commercial maintenance and construction and high end residential landscape maintenance and construction. This is a stable, growth-oriented organization that values hard work, offers year-round employment (including winter operations), and is currently modernizing its operations with new technology.
About the Position
This is a critical field-leadership role designed for an experienced irrigation professional who excels at troubleshooting but is ready to take on management responsibilities. Reporting to the Operations team, the Irrigation Foreman will primarily focus on service, repairs, and quality control for existing maintenance clients rather than large-scale new installations. The ideal candidate is a "working foreman"—someone who prefers being in the field and has the skill set to handle client communication, pricing, and administrative reporting.
Responsibilities
- Execute Field Operations: Perform spring startups, winterizations, system troubleshooting, and repairs on pumps, heads, valves, and timers.
- Lead Service Calls: Diagnose complex irrigation issues independently and execute repairs efficiently to minimize downtime for commercial and residential clients.
- Manage Administrative Tasks: Complete necessary paperwork, track billable hours, and prepare field reports (moving toward digital reporting via Aspire software in the near future).
- Client Communication: Serve as the technical face of the department, explaining issues to property managers and homeowners, and providing on-site recommendations for system improvements.
- Oversee Small Installs: Manage occasional small-scale installation projects, while coordinating with subcontractors for larger construction jobs.
- Support Winter Operations: Actively participate in snow and ice management operations during the winter months, typically in a plowing or site management capacity.
Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in irrigation service and repair; prior experience running a route or crew is highly preferred.
- Location: Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Lynn, MA due to early start times and traffic patterns.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong ability to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic issues within irrigation systems.
- Communication Skills: ability to speak professionally with clients and clearly document service activities.
- Tech Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new industry software (Aspire) for scheduling and reporting.
- Licensure: Valid Driver’s License is required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: ~$35.00 per hour (Dependent on experience) + Overtime availability.
- Retirement: 401(k) with up to 4% company match (eligible after 90 days).
- Health: Comprehensive Health Insurance (Company covers 50% of the cost).
- Additional Coverage: Options for Vision and Dental insurance.
- Perks: Company-provided vehicle, laptop/iPad, and cell phone.
- Professional Development: Company-paid certifications and training (e.g., Certified Landscape Professional, Arborist).
