Hiring Range: Starting at $52,190.00/year
Hours: Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm (some evenings and weekends required)
Position to provide professional landscaping and grounds keeping services for City of Durham parks through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Perform standardized work following prescribed procedures and instructions, while completing tasks independently. There is an established and specified routine to be followed, and decision-making is limited with minimal consequence on overall operations.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains grounds including maintaining plant beds, trees and shrubs, mowing grass, trimming weeds and applying fertilizers and chemicals.
- Cleaning, maintaining, and repairing fields, facilities, park amenities, and equipment.
- Operating commercial mowing and landscaping equipment (zero turn mowers, reel mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other handheld landscaping equipment).
- Turf care, athletic field, and/or ballfield maintenance including the operation of athletic field maintenance equipment including tractors, ballfield groomers, artificial turf grooming equipment, and aerators.
- Trail cleaning and minor maintenance.
- Special event setups/dismantling, athletic field lining/painting for athletic events.
- Assisting with special projects such as minor trimming of trees and bushes.
- Removal of all trash and debris from parks; blowing cleaning of hard surfaces, shelters, and courts; and cleaning of park restrooms.
- Performs seasonal projects as assigned including winter leaf pick up, brush clearing, snow and ice removal, storm cleanup, and athletic field maintenance.
- Performs basic repairs under the supervision of higher-level staff; performs manual and construction duties; inspects facilities and equipment for maintenance-related issues; reports issues to higher-level staff.
- Required to use a City issued smart phone and asset management software (Cityworks) to document work completion.
- Must be reliable and punctual (ability to work assigned schedule).
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
- Two years of maintenance experience related to assignments.
- Must have a valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license "or" if you currently have another state driver's license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Willing to work a flex schedule (evenings, weekends, and/or holidays).
- Experience using a smart phone.
- Willing to work in inclement weather (rainy, snowy, ice, hot/cold, etc.).
- North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License preferred.
- NC Pesticide License
