We are seeking an experienced
General Manager to oversee the daily operations of a high-volume retail garden center and lead the continued growth of a dynamic, customer-focused retail environment.
This is a senior leadership opportunity with broad responsibility across store operations, merchandising strategy, team development, customer experience, and overall business performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on retail leader who can operate strategically while also driving execution at the floor level.
You will work closely with ownership to strengthen operational consistency, improve the customer experience, and build scalable systems that support long-term growth and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all retail operations including sales performance, merchandising, staffing, and customer experience across multiple departments
- Lead, coach, and develop store managers, supervisors, and frontline retail staff
- Create and execute merchandising strategies that increase foot traffic, improve product presentation, and drive sales growth
- Monitor daily sales performance, staffing levels, and operational metrics, proactively identifying and resolving gaps
- Continuously improve the in-store customer experience through layout optimization, service standards, and team training
- Partner with ownership on seasonal planning, operational strategy, and long-term business growth initiatives
- Manage inventory flow, seasonal product transitions, and product assortment with attention to profitability and presentation
- Build a high-accountability team culture focused on customer service, operational excellence, and measurable results
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical process improvements across the business
Requirements
- 5+ years of retail management experience required
- Background in garden center operations, landscaping supply, nursery, outdoor living, or comparable specialty retail environments preferred
- Proven success leading teams in high-volume, customer-facing retail operations
- Strong experience with merchandising, product presentation, and retail sales strategy
- Ability to manage multiple departments and operational functions simultaneously
- Demonstrated success improving customer experience and driving consistent revenue growth
- Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, hands-on seasonal retail environment
- Working knowledge of inventory management, staffing, scheduling, and daily retail operations
