Position DescriptionClarence Hicks Sports Complex (CHSC) Facility Maintenance helps keep parks and facilities safe, clean, and welcoming for the community. This hands-on role handles landscaping, cleaning, routine maintenance, and minor repairs; operates equipment; sets up for events; oversees shelter rentals; and supports seasonal staff. The position also serves as Manager on Duty when needed, assists with projects, and delivers excellent customer service.

Operational Excellence
- Complete daily work orders as assigned, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to required standards.
- Open/close stadium complex according to procedures.
- Coordinate field preparation for practices, games, tournaments, and meets.
- Provide on-site oversight of maintenance operations during games, meets, and tournaments.
- Oversee complex readiness for large-scale events.
- Manage event setup including barricades, signage, and field access control.
- Assist with planning and execution of complex improvement projects.
- Support scoreboard and stadium lighting checks (if applicable).
- Deliver excellent customer service to patrons, coaches, officials, leagues, and guests.
- May serve as facility representative during events and tournaments.
- Respond to community concerns related to field conditions or facility operations.
- Provide assistance during events and address spectator or participant needs.
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and game-day experience.
- Manage public use of park and stadium areas professionally and proactively.
- Oversee shelter rentals, including setup, cleanup, and support..
Maintenance
- Monitor and maintain synthetic turf fields (grooming, brushing, debris removal, seam inspection, infill checks).
- Inspect and maintain natural grass fields (condition monitoring, minor repairs).
- Line and mark football and practice fields per event requirements.
- Inspect and maintain track surface, including cleaning and minor repairs.
- Maintain football goals, netting, benches, and field equipment.
- Inspect and maintain bleachers, fencing, gates, restrooms, and press box areas.
- Paint facility items such as picnic tables, trash cans, and shelters as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain irrigation and turf watering schedules.
Teamwork
- May act as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts or events.
- Provide day-to-day direction to seasonal staff assigned to the complex.
- Support training, supervision, and performance management of seasonal staff.
- Monitor quality standards for field preparation and event setup.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on seasonal staff performance.
- Assist with tracking time and attendance of seasonal employees.
Compliance
- Safely operate Park District vehicles, tractors, mowers, and hand/power tools.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of spectator areas and athletic surfaces.
- Follow weather monitoring and lightning safety procedures during events.
- Complete incident reports and required documentation.
- Use the Park District’s HRIS system to clock in/out and complete HR and payroll-related tasks accurately.
Requirements
Education/Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3-5 years of maintenance experience, supervisory experience preferred

- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required (May be obtained through the Rockford Park District.)
