Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fine Gardening Supervisor to lead a crew in maintaining high-end residential gardens, combining expert horticultural knowledge with team leadership. The ideal candidate should have strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of detailed garden stewardship. As a supervisor, you will be responsible for managing the workforce, ensuring quality control, and maintaining safety standards on-site.
Responsibilities

Horticultural Expertise: Perform and oversee detailed gardening tasks, including precision pruning, soil cultivation, perennial care, pest/disease identification, and seasonal plantings.

Crew Leadership: Supervise, train, and motivate crew members, assigning daily tasks to meet high-quality, fine gardening standards, and allocate hours for sites.

Training & Mentorship: Onboard new hires and train the team on proper horticultural techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use.

On-Site Execution: Participate in physical labor, including mowing, weeding, planting, pruning, and mulching.

Equipment Management: Oversee the daily routine maintenance and safe operation of vehicles and tools (e.g., mowers, blowers, trimmers).

Administrative Duties: Track project progress, complete daily timesheets/reports, and document materials used. Appropriately document all pesticide use.

Site Management: Direct daily operations, manage material inventory (tools, mulch, plants), and ensure the job site is clean, organized, and safe. Maintain a clean work truck and trailer.

Client Relations: Act as the primary on-site contact for clients and designers to discuss needs, provide updates, and ensure satisfaction.

Irrigation: Maintain and adjust irrigation controllers for seasonal changes.

Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in professional, high-end fine gardening or landscaping.

Technical Skills: Strong plant identification skills, knowledge of soil health, pests, and irrigation systems. Understanding of soil fertility, irrigation systems, and proper pruning techniques for a variety of shrub/tree types. Specifically, hand pruning.

Safety: Follow safety procedures, including the use of PPE, and have weekly safety tailgate training with the crew.

Leadership: Experience directing a crew of 2 or more gardeners, including training and quality control. Proven ability to manage teams, handle stress, and communicate effectively.

Licenses: A valid driver's license with a clean record is required. A pesticide applicator license will be obtainable within 1 year of employment. A horticulture degree would be considered a plus.

Physicality: Ability to lift 50–75 lbs., stand for long periods, and work in all weather conditions.

Technical: Gardening/landscaping, Mowing, Mulching, Pruning, Irrigation, Pesticide application. Must be able to drive safely with a trailer.

Soft Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management abilities. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are preferred.
