Director of Landscape Construction — Luxury Residential

For more than a century, this established Dallas firm has designed, built, and cared for some of the area’s finest residential landscapes. Its work combines architectural detail, skilled craftsmanship, and horticultural expertise, with client relationships that often extend across generations.
We’re seeking a Director of Landscape Construction to lead project delivery within this established design-build operation. Reporting to the COO, you’ll guide teams, manage complex installations, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients from pre-construction through completion.
Internally, the company calls this role Director of Garden Development. “Garden” reflects the care and design intent behind the work: projects range from intimate courtyards to multi-acre estates, with budgets of approximately $150,000 to $5 million or more.
The opportunity
You’ll oversee new construction and renovations that combine substantial hardscape work—custom masonry, cut limestone, pools, fountains, and paving—with planting, irrigation, and drainage. Most projects are in Dallas–Fort Worth, with some regional travel.
This is a visible leadership role in a collaborative company. You’ll work directly with senior leadership, designers, project managers, field teams, and specialty subcontractors. Your judgment matters: you’ll be expected to raise concerns, recommend solutions, and help the team deliver the design successfully in the field.
What you’ll lead
- Project execution: Oversee installations from pre-construction through completion, coordinating schedules, budgets, resources, and quality.
- People and partners: Mentor project-delivery staff, advise on staffing and team structure, and identify and manage qualified specialty subcontractors.
- Construction quality: Translate plans into precise field execution, protecting design intent and craftsmanship across landscape, hardscape, and pool installations.
- Client relationships: Keep homeowners, property managers, and project partners informed; explain decisions clearly; and resolve concerns with professionalism and discretion.
- Horticultural quality: Guide plant sourcing and installation, apply environmentally responsible and organic practices, and evaluate how completed gardens establish and perform.
- A successful handoff: Coordinate with the garden services team so completed projects transition smoothly into ongoing care.
What you’ll bring
- A record of successfully leading complex, high-end residential landscape or design-build projects. Experience in luxury homebuilding or general contracting is also relevant when paired with strong landscape and horticultural knowledge.
- Technical understanding of hardscape construction, including masonry, stonework, and pools, along with the ability to interpret plans and coordinate specialty trades.
- Strong knowledge of plant selection, installation, and long-term landscape performance, with the ability to apply that knowledge to North Texas conditions.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and teams while maintaining exacting quality standards.
- Clear, proactive communication and the confidence to make decisions, offer constructive pushback, and remain effective when expectations are high.
- A relevant degree in landscape architecture, horticulture, landscape construction, construction management, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred: Spanish proficiency and relevant professional licensure or certification.
Compensation and benefits
- $125,000–$175,000 annual salary, based on skills and experience.
