FULL SALARY RANGE: $27.59 - $36.62
ANTICIPATED HIRING SALARY RANGE: $27.59 - $32.11
This is a Full-time/hourly position.

About The Role
As an
Arborist, you’ll perform highly skilled work in urban forestry to ensure that City parks, landscaped areas, open spaces, rights‑of‑way, and trails remain safe, clean, functional, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally well‑maintained. This role includes tree care, planting, climbing, pruning, removal, and pest management. You will also participate in snow and ice control operations, operate various types of construction and forestry equipment, and may direct a crew of Parks Technicians and seasonal staff.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Urban Forestry
- Care for trees and shrubs throughout City property, including planting, fertilization, pruning, and removal.
- Perform technical tree‑climbing using rope and saddle; prune and remove trees safely and efficiently.
- Inspect trees and shrubs for diseases or insect issues; recommend and apply appropriate treatments.
- Remove and grind stumps; coordinate utility locates; operate chainsaws, chip trucks, and chippers.
- Assist with wood disposal and maintain newly planted trees.
- Parks and Open Spaces Maintenance
- Support a wide range of park and open space duties including mowing, trimming, planting, fertilizing, watering, aeration, irrigation, weed control, and landscaping.
- Install, maintain, and repair park amenities.
- Operate light to heavy equipment, various hand tools, and power tools.
- Snow and Ice Control
- Install and operate plows, sanders, ATVs, UTVs, snow blowers, and other winter equipment.
- Load trucks and remove snow using front‑end loaders.
- Operate single and double‑axle dump trucks requiring a Class B CDL.
- Work various shifts and remain on call as needed during weather events.
- Data Collection & Reporting
- Gather and report data for service requests.
- Maintain tree inventory, chemical safety data, equipment logs, and maintenance records.
- Use systems such as CityWorks, GIS/GPS, and AutoCAD.
- Miscellaneous Duties
- Provide excellent customer service to residents and respond to service requests.
- Follow all safety policies and use appropriate PPE.
- Assist with special events, trash and recycling removal, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
- Operate a variety of heavy and light‑duty equipment and vehicles.
What We’re Looking For
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of urban forestry practices, equipment, tools, and materials.
- Understanding of occupational hazards, safety standards, and park maintenance operations.
- Ability to identify trees and shrubs, recognize hazards, and determine appropriate treatments.
- Skilled operation of hand tools, power tools, and light/heavy equipment.
- Ability to lead and oversee staff during tree and shrub‑related work.
- Clear communication—both written and verbal—and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, enforce policies, and work well with staff and the public.
- Independent decision‑making and strong prioritization skills.
Education & Experience
- Four years of landscape maintenance experience, including at least two years in urban forestry with proficiency in rope‑and‑saddle climbing.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain ISA Certified Arborist credential within one year.
Preferred Qualifications
- Colorado Department of Agriculture pesticide certification.
- ISA TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification).
- ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist
- ISA Certified Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist.
- ISA Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist.

Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to hazardous environmental situations. Duties require frequent operation of various equipment and tools. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and extended hours based on operational needs.
