About the Position This firm is seeking a skilled and dependable professional to serve as the sole mechanic for their expanding fleet. You will take ownership of a dedicated, fully equipped shop—complete with a lift, welding equipment, and truck hoist—to maintain approximately 25 trucks and a wide variety of landscaping equipment. The primary objective of this role is to limit breakdowns through proactive maintenance and minimize downtime for field crews.
Responsibilities
- Execute Preventative Maintenance: Perform regular service intervals and inspections on gas and diesel trucks, trailers, and various landscaping assets to ensure operational readiness.
- Diagnose & Repair: Troubleshoot and fix a wide range of mechanical issues, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, brakes, and salters.
- Manage Field Operations: Respond to service calls and conduct field repairs when necessary to keep crews moving.
- Oversee Shop Operations: Maintain a safe, organized workspace and manage maintenance logs to proactively schedule equipment service.
- Fabricate & Build: Assist with welding, fabrication, and custom shop projects as time allows.
- Coordinate with Leadership: Communicate effectively with management and field staff to prioritize urgent repairs.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with a preference for backgrounds in fleet, diesel, or heavy equipment.
- Technical Versatility: Must possess a wide range of knowledge to switch between projects, from truck brakes to equipment troubleshooting.
- Tool Ownership: Candidates are required to bring their own daily tools; the company provides heavy shop equipment (welders, compressors, hoists, etc.).
- Autonomy: proven ability to work independently as a self-motivated "sole mechanic" who can manage their own workflow.
- Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required; a CDL is a plus.
- Preferred Skills: Welding/fabrication experience and ASE certifications are considered assets.
Compensation & Benefits
