Position Summary
Perform basic park maintenance activities including mowing, planting, spraying and maintaining landscaped areas and playing fields; maintain the cleanliness of park areas, medians, trails and recreational facilities and non-grassed areas and assist in the planting of trees and shrubs.

Essential And Supplemental Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Clean parks, medians trails and recreational facilities; pick up trash, debris, weeds and limbs from all grassed and non-grassed areas; remove ice and snow as necessary.
- Participate in nursery management including planting, pruning, pesticide application, watering and harvesting.
- Assist with the preparation of trees and shrubs for transplanting by digging, burlapping, balling and preparing soil; perform basic tree and shrub trimming and pruning.
- Assist with turf maintenance duties including soil preparation, leveling, seeding and sod repair; grind and spread sludge and other organic fertilizers.
- Operate light trucks to transport crew, supplies, materials and equipment to and from job site.
- Operate turf-riding equipment for mowing and other turf maintenance functions and hand held turf equipment.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures through safety and in-service training.
- Attend and participate in all training as scheduled.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED.
Specialized training in park maintenance or landscaping preferred.
Must successfully complete Park Management Training orientation within six (6) months and Park Maintenance Worker level I within one (1) year from date of hire.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Working Conditions
Environmental
Field environment; travel from site to site; work with and around maintenance equipment; exposure to noise, dust, fumes and inclement weather conditions.
Physical
Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
