Job Overview
Mariani Landscape is seeking a high-energy, operationally-minded Yard Supervisor to lead our Libertyville yard operations. This is not a "behind-the-desk" role. We are looking for a field-proven leader who understands that our yard is the heartbeat of our production—where logistics, elite horticulture, and heavy equipment intersect. As the Yard Supervisor, you are the steward of our "living assets." You will be responsible for the health and readiness of premium nursery stock, the precision of our inventory, and the seamless mobilization of our field crews. You will ensure that every tree, and plant material is staged and ready to transform our clients' properties into masterpieces.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintain the highest quality plant inventory and inspect all incoming deliveries to ensure they meet Mariani standards.
- Lead, direct, and train the yard crew in daily activities, supervising all work performed.
- Manage the loading, unloading, and storage of all materials, as well as the removal of refuse from the facility.
- Effectively operate and train staff on all yard machinery in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Collaborate with crews on yard organization, layout, and the strategic storage of onsite materials.
- Order and stock soft and hard goods while following established purchasing processes and approving invoices.
- Record all plant material shipped to jobsites and ensure the accuracy of all operational paperwork.
- Provide timely updates on status or internal concerns to the Materials Manager and participate in weekly departmental meetings.
- Work independently or as a team on recurring and special projects, consistently evaluating work to exceed client expectations.
- Maintain company work standards, follow all policies, and arrive prepared and on time for each workday.
Job Requirements
- At least 5 years experience with plant material required, specifically in yard operations.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of plant materials.
- Demonstrate accountability for plant inventory being maintained throughout the season.

- Knowledge of pest identification and disease management.
- Ability to lead others and train and develop staff for career development.
- Ability to operate yard machinery, including a backhoe, front-end loader, and forklift.
- Ability to work in a team environment, including taking direction and constructive feedback from team members, as well as providing feedback to other team members.
- Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of internal and external clients.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with Mariani associates and vendors on a consistent basis.
- Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary.
