The Florida Friendly Landscape Program Coordinator performs professional, technical work in providing leadership for development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of a comprehensive Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ program in cooperation with the Water Resources department and the University of Florida/IFAS Extension.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates and develops projects that compliment Citrus County’s water conservation and extension programming.
- Develops a program of workshops, clinics, media presentations and seminars to teach homeowners, community groups and homeowner associations the basic goals and objectives of the Florida-Friendly Landscaping (FFL) program.
- Prepares quarterly programming reports for the University of Florida/IFAS Extension.
- Works with other county departments and local agencies to provide recommendations for Florida-Friendly landscape installations.
- Participates in guest speaker opportunities with local radio and television stations and produces educational videos.
- Creates brochures and other educational materials and presentations.
- Assists Extension Services with management of demonstration garden.
- Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Environmental, Natural Sciences, Marketing, Business, or Sciences degree.
- Two (2) years’ experience in horticulture sciences including teaching or presentations to large groups.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work after normal business hours (includes nights and weekend).
- Ability to design, teach and conduct community based educational programs.
- Extensive knowledge of ornamental plant species (including trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, and ground covers).
- Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and strong attention to detail required.
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to type and compose routine business letters and memorandum.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
- Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration
- Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
- Must have or be able to obtain after six (6) months of employment, Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) certification.
