POSITION SUMMARY:
The Irrigation Technician installs, repairs, and troubleshoots underground lawn sprinkler systems. The primary responsibility is to safely and efficiently complete irrigation service on properties assigned. This position reports to the Irrigation Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, troubleshoot and repair many types, sizes and models of drip/sprinkler systems, controllers and valves, including electrical troubleshooting of all the systems components.
- Repair irrigation mainlines from 1” to 12” in size, using components and techniques established by the industry.
- Repair backflow prevention devices.
- Set and maintain times on computer and electronic valve clocks; troubleshoot computerized electronic systems, irrigation controllers, solenoid valves, and heads of all types.
- Map system for master plans; may review or make changes to contract specifications.
- Assist field personnel with diagnosing and troubleshooting irrigation-related problems.
- May train or instruct others in minor irrigation repairs.
- Operate tractors and trenchers to install/repair lines.
- Perform site assessments and identify problems, reporting any repairs or maintenance requirements needed on equipment to supervisor.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders and prepare necessary documents and reports.
- Inspect equipment, inventory supplies and maintain adequate on-hand supplies.
- May assist in coordination with other departments or outside contractors.
- Participate in the Safety Program and adhere to company safety guidelines operating in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assure quality and timely completion of all tasks assigned within the allotted budgeted hours.
- Attend meetings as needed.
- Serve as a model employee and set the standards for a quality company image that invites customers to repeat their business, especially regarding work quality, promptness, language and dress.
- Perform other duties, such as general grounds maintenance, as needed or requested by supervisor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- At least 3 – 5 years of residential and commercial irrigation maintenance/repair experience.
- Power Limited License preferred but not required.
- Must have knowledge of two wire irrigation systems and underground sprinkler systems.
- Must have knowledge of PVC installation and techniques and understand basic pipe sizing and
- Experience in Aspire Landscape Operating System preferred.
SKILLS & ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to repair or replace valves and mainline breaks.
- Must be able to operate or use all required trenching and boring equipment and other tools to prepare trenches.
- Must provide proper maintenance and respect for company equipment and customer’s property.
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Must have a positive attitude, patience, and good follow-through skills.
- Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, clients, managers and team members, and demonstrate strong teamwork skills.
- Must be able to work long hours and overtime, with the ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work).
- Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
- Must have transportation to and from the show up location.
- High level of accountability, with the ability to arrive to designated locations on time and ready to perform duties.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Must have valid state driver’s license and reasonably clean driving record.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Works around hazardous equipment with moving mechanical parts.
- Works outside in all weather conditions, including cold, heat, temperature swings.
- Works around excessive noise from machines, requiring hearing protection.
- Works in corridors with uneven terrain.
- Works in restricted spaces with low lighting.
- May be exposed to nature, i.e. irritating plants and biting or stinging insects.
- May be exposed to fumes/odors, dust/mites, chemical and/or waste hazards.
- May be exposed to dogs and other animals.
- Work may be performed at varying heights above ground.
